Auction #5 - June 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/28/2020
The E181 Heisel's "Campaign Gum" set is what appears to be a (10) card set focused on the candidates for President and Vice President of the United States in the election of 1888. The cards are lithographed with blue border and white stars and a crude drawing of the noted candidate on the front as well as a yellow starburst in the lower left corner that contains the advertising. The backs of the cards are blank. The yellow starbursts are most commonly found with Heisel's Campaign Gum but, in rare instances, can be found with Heisel's Red Bandana Gum. The Red Bandana cards are very rare. The same card stock can also be found for other advertisers as well including Cordoba Coffee and Snow and Silver Soaps as well as having a blank stock card minus the yellow starburst.
This lot of (5) cards includes the following subjects: Benjamin Harrison, General C.B. Fisk, Grover Cleveland, Alan Thurman and W.H.T. Wakefield. The cards run the gamut between fair and VG with most being in the VG range. This lot represents half the set and would be a good starting point to a complete set of (10).
