The E264 Miss Zatek and Papoose cards were issued by the Zatek chocolate company of Pittsburgh, PA. The cards have a copyright date on the front of 1918. The cards picture different Indian maidens each of which has a single letter on the front. The diagram on the back shows that the letters spell out ‘Zatek Chocolate’. As there was no redemption for collection all the letters, it doesn’t appear that any one letter is more difficult to find than another. Of the letters that are repeated (A, C, E, O & T), each version of the letter pictures a different Indian maiden. It is apparent from the information on the cards that they were included with Zatek Milk Chocolate bars but also advertised for Zatek Cocoa and Zatek Chocolate Eatmors which were ‘star shaped pieces of solid milk chocolate’ in a red tube. There are instructions at the midpoint of the cards that they should be cut around the maiden’s upper half and folded at the midpoint to be able to stand them up. The cards are not die cut, so it would have been difficult to trim them and then fold. Cards that are trimmed & folded, however, should be worth about half of the value listed above. The checklist for the set is comprised of the letters making ‘Zatek Chocolate’.
This lot of (10) Zatek Choclolate Papoose cards are generally in VG to VGEX conditon with one copy of the "H" card being trimmed on two sides. Nice lot that represents a significant portion of a complete set.
