The N157 Sunny South Series are a series of tobacco cards picturing African American subjects--often in racially stereotyped poses. The set can be found with advertising from a number of different tobacco companies and brands including Honest Long Cut and Gail & Ax Bob'Link from Duke tobacco or Sweet Lavender and Old Gold from Kimball. Not all subjects have been seen from all brands.
This lot is for a single N157A Honest Long Cut Sunny South card of a man eating watermelon. This racial stereotype is pictured on a few tobacco cards of the day and, while offensive to most, is also collected by many. The card is in about VGEX to EX condition and clean with a clean, black back.
