The N49 Allen & Ginter Cyclists card set pictures women on high wheel bicycles of the day from the late 1880's to early 1890's. The cards are albumen photo cards attached to a thick cardboard stock which was very common for the day. The cards are typically numbered somewhere in the field of the photo and numbers as high as 66 have been seen. The vintagenonsports.com gallery pictures some 40 cards and Non-sport.com pictures a dozen cards from the set. The cards are the standard size running 1-7/16" by 2-5/8".
This card is numbered 34 on the front with slightly lighter photo clarity which is common for the issue. The back suffers from some surface paper loss issues and has '47' written on the back. This card was used for the plate picture from the seminal work American Tobacco Cards by Robert Forbes & Terence Mitchell.
