The CDV or Carte de Viste were small format photos that typically measure around 2-1/2" by 4". They generally have a slightly smaller albumen photo that has been mounted to the mount that is that size. The CDV were most commonly found in the mid-1850's through early 1870's. Beyond that date the larger 'cabinet' photo supplanted them as the more common type of photo.
This lot is a group of (4) Actor/Actress CDV's to include three single subject CDV's and a composite photo. The single subject actresses include: Pauline Hall, Montague and Christine Nilsson. The composite actress photo pictures 20 different actresses in various poses from head shots to 3/4 length portraits. All (4) are in great condition in the EX to EXMT range. The back of the Hall and Montague photos have an advertisement for photographer Alvin B Warfel of Cadiz, Ohio and notes that pictures can be had for 5 to 15 cents. Great lot of CDV's.
