Auction #3 - October 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/27/2019
The 1957 Topps Planes set is a (120) card set issued in two series of (60) cards. The second series is tougher than the first and a single checklist outlines all the cards in both series. As with most of the very earliest Topps checklists, the checklist for the 1957 Topps Planes set is tough to find and even tougher to find in clean, unchecked condition. This near set (119/120), missing only a single card #103 has (24) graded cards including the very elusive checklist in PSA5 condition. The card is very clear. The other (23) cards
PSA-graded (24 cards):
NM-MT+ 8.5: #11 (one in grade ,one higher)
NM-MT 8: #5,7,8,10,15,16,19,20,23,24,29,30,35,39,40,43,48,50,111
NM 7: #1,2,34,59
EX 5: “Blony” checklist
Raw cards average EX to EX-MT, some off-center. A strong set, with a difficult-to-locate checklist card in above-average condition. Also, an outstanding #1 card. The majority of the PSA8 cards are among just a handful at their grade with only 1-2 higher. A great, high grade set with a good start on a PSA set.
Originating in the collection of a very advanced PSA collector, this set and a number of others in the auction are high mid-grade sets mostly free of creases and individually sleeved in semi-rigids housed in 4 pocket pages in binders. As with this set, many of the sets are mostly ungraded with some nice or key cards graded as noted.
