The R41 Dick Tracy set of (144) cards was issued in 1937 by the Walter H Johnson candy company of Chicago, IL. The cards were issued with Dick Tracy Caramels in 1 cent packs.
The set pictured the episodes of Dick Tracy which originally began in 1931. By the time this set was issued, American children were fascinated with the yellow-coated detective and his exploits. The cards picture Tracy and his cast of characters fighting crime and solving problems. A large find of cards numbered 121-144 in very high grade was found in the 1980's and most sets typically have those high number cards in EXMT or better.
This set is a very clean set overall. Approximately 10% of the set is in EX to EXMT, 60% in VGEX, 20% in VG and 10% lesser. The set displays excellently and evenly with the 121-144 cards being from the subsequent find in about EXMT or better condition. The wrapper included has a small area missing in the lower right corner but the center image is in perfect shape. This represents great opportunity to pick up one of the iconic early 1930's candy and gum sets.
