Gumaker's issued the True Spy Stories set of 24 cards in 1939. The set pictured stories of spies from all over the world in situations that piqued the curiosity of America's youth. Stories of Mata Hari, Allen Pinkerton and spies from Japan, China and other foreign, exotic countries in dangerous situations are pictured on the front of these cards with narratives on the back that were likely the subjects of many childhood games. This set is an even looking VGEX to EX set with some better and some worse. The colorful fronts picture airplanes, bullets flying, smoky rooms, people plotting around tables and people peering around rocks, doors, walls. A fantastic set from the pre-war Gum genre.
This set of (24) cards generally fall between Fair and VGEX condition with most falling into the VG- range. The fronts exhibit great color however and the set displays nicely overall.
