Alfred Campbell of Elizabeth, NJ is widely credited with being the primary photographer of the images that were used on the N566 and N567 Newsboy cabinets of the 1895 period. At least most of the red printed mount Newsboys. The green printed mounts are, in most cases, from photos taken by Falk studios in NYC and attributed as such. Campbell was a prolific photographer of the late 1870's into the 1890's. He was well known for his stereoscope images and for his CDV and cabinet photos and was one of a number of photographers in or near NYC in that period who also specialized in photographing Broadway stars. Campbell's work for Newsboy was largely unattributed but surmised from discovering simlar posed cabinets to the Newsboy cabinets of the day.
This lot contains (3) Campbell Mount cabinet cards including President William McKinley, General Fitzhugh Lee and Queen Victoria. The Lee and McKinley cabinets are in EX to EXMT condition and the Queen Victoria is in G condition.
Interestingly, as shown in the final picture, a piece of the gray paper between the mount and the album photo has flaked away revealing that the mount had dual advertising on it--on one end, advertising for Campbell studios of Elizabeth, New Jersey and the other end the lower left curl of the characteristic "N" in the Newsboy name. Great lot of cabinets.
