In 1928, The Stevens-Davis Co. issued a popular “Men of America” (H572) series of booklets of famous Americans. Somewhat reminiscent of the History of Poor Boys N79 offering from Duke, these larger format booklets (2-1/2" x 4-1/16") booklets featured a number of famous Americans from business to baseball to golf to other vocations.
This lot contains a pair of the wooden/chipboard boxes made to look like a book to house the booklets and a total of (73) booklets. There are a total of 41 different titles and 5 variations to those titles in the lot along with 27 duplicates of the books. The set is complete at 52 booklets, so this is a near set that is missing just a few subjects. As you can see the variations are typically for changes in color between different printings of the booklets. An example of these color changes is shown with the Alfred P. Sloan, Jr. booklets pictured. Fantastic small, affordable collectible that can provide enjoyment for collectors and variation collectors alike.
