The N566 Newsboy series pictures Actresses and numbers into the hundreds of cards. The Newsboy cabinets were likely point-of-sale giveaways for buying the Newsboy brand of tobacco. The cabinets are standard 4-1/4" x 6-1/2" cabinets and have an albumen photo adhered to a red-inked mount advertising Newsboy of New York at the bottom front of the cabinet. Cabinets are blank-backed and often numbered on either the cabinet front or within the photo field itself and, occasionally both places. Many actresses have multiple poses or can be found with different mounts and the set offers the variation collector some real opportunities.
This lot includes a single N567 Newsboy cabinet of Sandow who is often credited being the father of bodybuilding and the 19th century precursor to figures like Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Mr. Universe body builders of today. The cabinet is in VGEX to EX condition and clean and pictures Sandow in a tuxedo. The cabinet is one of 5-6 different Sandow poses in the Newsboy set and the only one picturing him in street clothes..
