Richard K Fox was the proprietor of the Police Gazette from 1877 to 1922 and brought the magazine to prominence for tabloid journalism, sports feats, 'girlie' photos and other tabloid hooks to sell the magazine. It was also dedicated, as the name would imply, to police and matters of policing. Fox issued a number of premiums associated with his magazine from the actress cabinets included in this lot to similar baseball and boxing cabinet photos as well as magazine supplements printed on thinner stock and inserted into the Police Gazette to help drive sales.
This lot of (3) Actress cabinet cards includes the subjects La Belle Geraldine, Sibyl Johnstone and Madge Lessing. The cabinet cards are printed on dark mounts and are in particularly good condition to be 120+ years old.
