Allen & Ginter was one of the more prolific advertisers during the 1880's. Trade cards, insert cards, albums, banners and many many more items were crafted to be used for point of sale, window advertising and at other points. These cards are anthropomorphic--human bodies with animal heads and measure about 4" x 4". As with most of the Allen & Ginter advertising, the chromolithography is top notch. The cards picture families of cats, lions, monkeys and dogs--all of which are smiling and laughing at some type of event. Anthropomorphic trade cards were very popular in the 1870's and 1880's.
This lot of (4) cards may be a set or there could be additional cards. They are in about GVG to VG condition with some some very light wear to the otherwise clean fronts and some light issues with the back from scrapbook removal. Great group.
