R93-A Movie Stars (Uncut) Lot of (16) Scarce Cards

There's not a great deal known about the R93 series of Movie Star Cards. They are very scarce, blank backed cards with no advertising of a maker on them. Burdick included them in the "R" series for candy and gum but there's no definitive proof that they belong there other than his inclusion. The cards can be found in one of two varieties. Type A, like the (16) in this lot are just normal square cards and not diecut. Type B are diecut to the shape of the geometric look at the top of the card. The set includes stars of the day from what is believed to be around 1930.

This is the largest group of these we have ever seen in any venue or auction. All (16) of these are the Type A uncut version cards. Stars in this lot include Lionel Barrymore, Constance Bennett, Irene Dunne, Nelson Eddy, Clark Gable, William Gargan, Katherine Hepburn, John King, Myrna Loy, Karen Morley, Jean Parker, Eleanor Powell, Shirley Ross, Lewis Stone, Robert Taylor and Lee Tracy. All the cards fall into the VGEX to EX category with clean backs and decent corners. Fantastic opportunity to knock a large portion of this set out for set collectors and pick up some of the biggest stars of the day in Gable, Hepburn and Barrymore. Great lot.
