The H340-2 Fairbanks Fairy Soap set is a set of (12) cabinet-type cards picturing Spanish American War heroes. The cards are very professionally made with high quality materials and feature an inset sepia photo on the front with the subjects name and rank at the bottom. The back of the cards advertises for Fairbank's Fairy Soap from the N.K. Fairbanks company of multiple locations. Key to the set is the Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt card--pictured as Colonel of the Volunteers or "Rough Riders". Also within the series are key cards of William McKinley (the sitting President of the USA) and George Dewey, Admiral of the Navy, the only person in United States history to have attained that rank. He is best known for his victory at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish–American War, with the loss of only a single crewman on the American side. The set is one of the nicer sets in the "H" series of advertising pieces.
This single H340-2 Fairbanks Fairy Soap card is of the subject Teddy Roosevelt that has been graded SGC4 VGEX. This is one of the earlier Teddy Roosevelt pieces and pictures Teddy in his Rough Rider's outfit. Theodore Roosevelt and his Rough Riders are famously known for their charge up San Juan Hill during the Spanish-American War. His exploits there and his larger-than-life personality led him directly into the role as the U.S. President for two consecutive terms starting on March 4, 1901 though March 4, 1909. This fantastic piece has just a little foxing on the lower front.
