The T229 Pet Cigarettes is a multi-sport card set primarily picturing boxers but also has aviators, cyclers and wrestlers. The set was issued sometime after the turn of the 20th century and is a very colorful series with biographical backs. The series was issued in California only and, as is the case with most of the other California-only issues, very difficult to locate.
This lot is for a single T229 Pet Cigarettes Sports Champions card picturing Charles F Willard that has been graded SGC40 or VG3. The card has the characteristic purple number stamped on the back which leads to this lower grade. The card appears to be 1-2 grades higher with a beautiful front.
