The N76 Duke Tobacco Great Americans set is arguably the best looking Duke set from the dozens they offered during the 1880's. The artwork and lithography of the set is second to none really. Duke selected generals, presidents, poets, inventors and other famous Americans to include in their set. Inexplicably, they made two versions of the Henry Ward Beecher card. Beecher was an clergyman and abolitionist who passed away in 1887. It is generally believed to be an 1888 issued set but there is no known reasons for the second Beecher card.

Thie missing (6) cards from this set include: Edwin Forrest, Washington Irving, Oliver Hazard Perry, Edgar Allen Poe, General Anthony Wayne and Benjamin West. The condition breakdown on this near set (44/50) of cards falls mostly in the VG to EX range with about 7-8 cards being lower with back issues ranging from mild to little back damage and some staining. Great near set, that with some additions and upgrades, could wind up being a very clean set. Both variations on the Beecher card are present with the lot totaling 45 cards.
