Mayo Cut Plug Tobacco issued a number of actress sets in the 1880's and the N296 set is one of the tougher issues they had. Only fourteen cards have been checklisted to date, picturing famous actresses of the day. The cards feature the characteristic Mayo advertising banner in the bottom front center with the actresses name directly above it and blue printing on the front of the card. The backs of the card are blank.
This lot features a single card from the set picturing the famous actress Modjeska. This card was the exact same card used as the plate copy for the Mitchell & Forbes' book American Tobacco Cards.
