The Allen & Ginter Editors set of the late 1880's conveyed just how much importance was placed on the power of the pen. Many of the editors pictured in the set were some of the most powerful men in the United States at the time. Pulizter, Belo and many more. The 50 card set employed great lithography and the cards were numbered on the back. This set, like some of the other A&G sets, seems to have used possibly some type of coating on the front which make them susceptible to flaking of the surface. The second half of the larger format set in this lot seems to be prohibitively more difficult than the first half to obtain. There is no reason to explain this, but many advanced collections are missing a number of cards in the 26-50 range.
This lot includes a group of (28) cards from the N35 Allen & Ginter American Editors set. This represents over 1/2 of the set. The condition of the cards in this lot generally varies from Poor to VG/VGEX with most being in the Fair to Good Range. The majority of cards in this lot have some issue with back damage--paper missing or still adhered. In the case of paper adhered, it is entirely possible that the paper could be removed with just water. Some of the back damage also includes heavy dark glue stain. Seven of the cards in the lot are from the higher 26-50 numbered series.
