In an era when fake news wasn't as prevalent, Allen & Ginter issued the American Editors set in two formats--small and large. The small were cataloged as the first Allen & Ginter set or N1 and the oversized format were cataloged as N35. Both series are great indicators of the power of the press in the late 1880's/early 1890's, picturing real life publishers or editors of many of the most prominent papers of the day. With subjects like Pulitzer, A.H. Belo, George Childs, Charles Dana and Whitelaw Reid and representing papers from New York, Boston, Washington, Philadelphia and other important cities of the U.S., the set is a popular set to collect.
This lot of (5) N35 Allen & Ginter American Editors cards are generally in Poor to Fair condition with all (5) having some level of back damage from 100% to about 20%. One subject, George Bleistein has been graded BVG1 or Poor and the other four subjects are ungraded and include: Frank O'Neill, Whitelaw Reid, Felix Agnus and Jack Mclean.
