The 1898-99 National Copperplate baseball set is a notable collection of baseball cards produced during the late 19th century. This set features 50 different players, predominantly from Major League Baseball teams of the time. The cards are unique due to their striking copperplate printing process, which gives them a distinctive look. Each card typically includes a portrait of the player along with their name and team affiliation. The set is considered one of the earliest examples of baseball card collecting and remains highly sought after by collectors today, reflecting the growing popularity of baseball during this era. The 'cards' measure 10" by 13" and are often condition-challenged.
This single 1898-99 National Copperplate Print is of the catcher for the Louisville Team--Charlie Dexter. It's in technically poor condition with a 3/4" tear on the right border and small tear on the bottom border, corner issues and the holes from binding on the left. The full interior image of Dexter, However is in good condition. This is a tough type card missing from many advanced type card collector's lists.
