The N566 Newsboy series pictures Actresses and numbers into the hundreds of cards. The Newsboy cabinets were likely point-of-sale giveaways for buying the Newsboy brand of tobacco. The cabinets are standard 4-1/4" x 6-1/2" cabinets and have an albumen photo adhered to a red-inked mount advertising Newsboy of New York at the bottom front of the cabinet. Cabinets are blank-backed and often numbered on either the cabinet front or within the photo field itself and, occasionally both places. Many actresses have multiple poses or can be found with different mounts and the set offers the variation collector some real opportunities.
This lot includes a single N567 Newsboy cabinet of William "Buffalo Bill" Cody. There is another Cody cabinet that is just a head shot in the green mount Newsboys but the pose in this lot is significantly tougher than that one. This is the best of two of these cabinets we have ever seen. Significantly historic figure from a very popular set.
