The N76 Duke Tobacco Great Americans set is arguably the best looking Duke set from the dozens they offered during the 1880's. The artwork and lithography of the set is second to none really. Duke selected generals, presidents, poets, inventors and other famous Americans to include in their set. Inexplicably, they made two versions of the Henry Ward Beecher card. Beecher was an clergyman and abolitionist who passed away in 1887. It is generally believed to be an 1888 issued set but there is no known reasons for the second Beecher card.
This lot of (48) cutouts are from what is an apparent banner for the N76 Duke Great Americans set. The banner for the N76 set is classified as G45 and no image is available for the set. The (48) cards in this lot may comprise all the cards on that banner or not. Some banners pictured all (50) cards in a series and others pictured a subset of the (50). The cutouts in this lot are mostly in Good to VGEX condition with blank backs. The Andrew Jackson subject is missing a piece of the right corner of the card but the rest of the cards are intact and handcut with somewhat wavy borders. Due to the scarcity of this banner, these cutouts are rarely, if ever seen.
