The Allen & Ginter Editors set of the late 1880's conveyed just how much importance was placed on the power of the pen. Many of the editors pictured in the set were some of the most powerful men in the United States at the time. Pulizter, Belo and many more. The 50 card set employed great lithography and the cards were numbered on the back. This set, like some of the other A&G sets, seems to have used possibly some type of coating on the front which make them susceptible to flaking of the surface.
This complete set of (50) cards has (7) cards graded by either PSA or SGC. The PSA graded cards include (4) PSA6 EX-MT graded cards with the following subjects: #3 John Arkins, #10 J.M. Bundy, #41 Whitelaw Reid and #42 O.H. Rothaker. The SGC graded cards include the following subjects: #22 Henry Grady SGC1.5, #31 Joseph Medill SGC3 and the key to the set, #38 Joseph Pulitzer SGC3.5. The remaining (43) cards are raw and fall pretty solidly in the VG to EXMT range with a few lesser that have some light paper loss spots on the back. There are (8) that have light, unobtrusive back specks of paper loss. Great set, that with a few upgrades could be a world class set.
