This advertising piece from Cameo Cigarettes features Lord Roberts who was a British Victorian era general who became one of the most successful British military commanders of his time. Born in India to an Anglo-Irish family, Roberts joined the East India Company Army and served as a young officer in the Indian Rebellion during which he won a Victoria Cross for gallantry. Cameo cigarettes issued an interesting pinback series of Boer War heroes cataloged P40 so this might be a larger advertising piece for that issue. The mount has Cameo Cigarettes printed on it but it is in poor condition with a break at the bottom. The embossed bas relief image of Roberts has been taped into the mount with archival tape and overall, the piece displays well. Great piece of advertising from Cameo Cigarettes.
