Inaugural January 2019 Auction

The Duke N117 Industries of States series pictures women dressed in what appears to be Greek or Roman garb next to a shield for the respective state represented. Since the cards were likely issued in the late 1880's to early 1890's the scantily clad women likely caused a stir. Many of the women sport a bare breast and little is done to cover them. The backs of the cards advertise Dukes Brands of Gail & Ax or Honest Long cut and, other than the Illinois card, this lot is nearly a pure Gail & Ax lot. This is a fantastic start towards a complete set of these popular 19th century cards.
The condition of the lot is (15) cards in VGEX condition with (2) cards in F/G condtiion. The two lower grade cards present as slightly better looking cards than their technical grade would suggest.
