The Monarch Tobacco Works of Louisville, Kentucky issued a small set of cards in the late 1880's to early 1890's using the original artwork from the Allen & Ginter American Indian Chiefs series. The set from Monarch numbers only (4) cards and was issued with their Kickapoo Plug Tobacco product. More often than not, these cards have some type of advertising stamp on the bottom 1/2 inch of the back of the card. Ample space was left for tobacconists to add their store name or other advertising here and there is generally a stamp of such here.
This pair of N570 Monarch Tobacco American Indians includes the following subjects: Black Hawk (VG condition no advertising stamp) and Red Cloud (Good condition with advertising stamp "For sale by T K Leaton" and the price 1.50 written on the back. Very light staining lower left corner).
