The N8 Allen & Ginter Fish from American Waters set is one of two fish-themed sets Allen & Ginter produced in the late 1880's picturing the same artwork. The companion N39 set uses the same N8 artwork with some additional embellishing on the margins of the card in a larger format. The artwork would be used in a number of sets into the 1910's and 1920's from the US and Canada and used abroad for American Tobacco Company.
This set of (50) cards contains (47) from the N8 Allen & Ginter set and (3) from the much tougher American Tobacco Cards T407A. The (3) T407A cards are Chub, Flying Fish and Skate. Overall, the cards in this combined set are in VG to EXMT condition with mosting being VGEX to EX. There are 10 with some type of back issue with (5) having a light back stamp for "Sidney Mosher" and (5) more that have some very light paper loss or some type of staining. Overall, this is a very clean set that with just a few upgrade and card changes could be a nice mid to upper-mid grade set.
