The 1953 Dixie Cup Lids is a (24) card set that were lids to small cups of ice cream. The cards picture Movie Stars and have such big name subjects as Bing Crosby, Clark Gable, Bob Hope, Gene Kelly, Alan Ladd, Elizabeth Taylor, John Wayne and Shelley Winters. These round die cut cards have tabs on them which were used to pull them out from the ice cream cup. The lids had a wax paper layer over the image which was face down against the ice cream. Most of the Dixie lids are found with condition issues and frequently found with missing tabs. This set is a contradiction to that as there exist a number of high grade copies which obviously never made it into production ice cream cups.
This set of (24) lids is in EXMT to NRMT condition and very clean. The blue fronts are protected by the wax paper coverings that are still intact and the red-printed backs advertise for Nelson's Cloverland Ice Cream and are mostly clean with just a few having some very light toning. All card fronts and three sample backs have been scanned.
