Goudey or World Wide Gum issued the Jungle Gum set in 1930. The set is 48 cards issued in two series of 24. The first series is numbered 1-24, while the second series is skip numbered from 25-71. The cards picture wild animals typically in jungle settings and have colorful pastel-colored fronts with the characteristic green typeset backs. This set of 48 is a mostly clean EX type set. One of the nicer sets issued early in the "R" candy and gum era.
This Item is a header card for a wax box of Jungle Gum from Goudey/World Wide Gum of Boston, Mass. The card measures about 6" x 3" and is in overall nice condition. The card does have 3 staple spots in the top right and left corners and in the lower left 1/3 of the card. The card is printed in a single green print tone with a white one cent notation on the left upper side and a great lion graphic on the right side and notes World Wide Gum Co., Boston, Mass at the bottom of the top half of the card.
The bottom half of the card as well as the back of the card is blank as the card would have been inserted into a wax box to stand up and hopefully entice a small child to pull a pack from the wax box. Just a phenomenal piece of Goudey/WWG history and a piece that is rarely seen. A similar piece for Big Thrill Gum, albeit a bit larger, sold for nearly $1200 in our last auction.
