Auction #3 - October 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/27/2019
The Monarch Tobacco Works of Louisville, Kentucky issued a small set of cards in the late 1880's to early 1890's using the original artwork from the Allen & Ginter American Indian Chiefs series. The set from Monarch numbers only (4) cards and was issued with their Kickapoo Plug Tobacco product. More often than not, these cards have some type of advertising stamp on the bottom 1/2 inch of the back of the card. Ample space was left for tobacconists to add their store name or other advertising here and there is generally a stamp of such here.
This pair of N570 cards includes the subjects Black Hawk and Keokuk and both cards are in overall lesser condition. Both have writing on the back and the Keokuk card has the normal back stamp of the tobacconist. The cards are oversized compared to the N2 cards of the same artwork.
