The R65 Goudey Gum History of Aviation is one of the more colorful, large format issue Goudey sets. The (10) "card" set includes (5) aviators and (5) airships and measures 5-1/2" by 5-1/2" in size. Printed on thin paper, the colorful fronts are matched with detailed, biographical backs and have a pair of holes marked for punching to assemble a 10 card booklet. Since no wrappers have been found for these and owing to the large size, it is believed that these could have been point-of-sale promotions in another Goudey product or been given out for purchasing some type of goods from Goudey. Due to the nature of the paper, the set is frequently found in lower grade--creased or with corner issues.
The set is a who's who of aviators and aviation including Howard Hughes, Eddie Rickenbacker, Wiley Post, Charles Lindbergh, Richard Byrd, Wiley Post's "Winnie Mae", Howard Hughes Record Smasher, Lindbergh's "Spirit of St. Louis", "Over the North Pole with Byrd" and Wings Over the Pacific "China Clipper". Fantastic set of popular 1930's subject matter featuring heroes of epic proportions.
This set of (10) cards is in EX condition and very clean and even.
