The A.G. Spalding Company was one of the early leaders in sports equipment. A.G. Spalding was an early baseball star in the 1870's and parlayed that success into a thriving sports equipment business. Spalding was located in New York, Chicago and Philadelphia. Spalding did a significant amount of advertising during their heyday and this set of (5) Die Cut Sporting Figures is one of the most beloved groups. Picturing figures for baseball, football, bicycling, golf and tennis, this die cut set had tabs on the back to allow them to stand up for what was probably countertop advertising at point-of-sale. They have detailed information printed on the back of each piece for the sport they advertise.
This complete set of (5) H818 Die Cut Sports figures are in mostly EX condition with the Golf figure being the only one that has the tab still intact on the back of the piece. The others are missing but the tennis piece has the racquet and the baseball piece has the bat and both of those are particularly difficult to find with those still attached due to the diecutting process and how the pieces protrude from the cards. Great lot and change to pick up a complete set of these popular die cut trade cards.
