The 1961 Nu-cards Dinosaurs set is an (80) card set picturing black and white dinosaur pictures set against a teal-type colored border on the card front. The card back is printed in red ink and has a very brief narrative about the card image on the front. Most of the cards from Nu-cards have a big following and they are, in many cases, tough sets to complete.
This is an exceptional high-grade offering. Despite their obvious popularity among young boys, dinosaurs made very few appearances in cards series of the 1950s and early 1960s. Nu-Cards, a Long Island firm, filled this void with this unusual, full-bleed, aqua-colored issuance. It includes not only dinosaurs, but more recent prehistoric species, as well as man himself. The front images were assembled from a number of authoritative sources. The backs contain meager info about the species featured on the front. They also contained a letter which, in combination with letters from other cards, could be used to spell “DINOSAUR” and submitted to Nu-Cards for a free album. The “S” cards were issued in very limited quantity, and less than two dozen are known to exist. Sorry, no “S” cards, in this offering! The cards in this set were assembled over a period of years and are of uniformly high grade, many at NM or better. Impressively mounted in Cardsaver 1 plastic holders displayed in plastic pages inside a sturdy looseleaf binder. Absolutely gorgeous! Also included is an empty wrapper.
