In 1962 Topps issued an 88 card set titled Civil War News. The set pictures all the battles and characters of the U.S. Civil War which was fought between 1861 and 1865. The series proved very popular and employed fantastic, colorful artwork. A large find of unopened cello packages in the 1980's were opened and complete, high grade sets were disseminated into the hobby.
This set of (88) cards is in EXMT to NRMT/MT condition with most cards being very high grade. This is likely one of the sets from the cello package find. Other than the usual vagaries of centering, this set is virtually unimprovable from a surface and corner perspective. The checklist is also in high grade NRMT to NRMT/MT condition and unchecked and slightly off-centered. Just a beautiful set. All card fronts and backs have been scanned. The checklist--card #88--is in particularly nice condition and centered better than most of the complete sets of these we have sold.
The (17) pieces of confederate currency--found one per pack upon issuance--are in EXMT to NRMT condition as well and make a fantastic companion to this set.
