The N559 Lake Erie Tobacco State Governors set is a (48) card set picturing governors of the day in the late 1880's. The cards are larger format akin to a trade card, measuring 2-5/8" Wide by 4-3/8" High. The fronts of the cards are sepia with white borders and the backs of the cards are ornately printed in blue ink and advertise for Ivory Long Cut chewing tobacco. Grover Cleveland is included in the set. The cards are relatively scarce and highly sought out by advanced collectors of 19th century tobacco cards.
This single N559 Lake Erie Tobacco Governors picutres Alfred Swineford (Alaska). The card has a VGEX to EX appearance but has a number of pinholes and '559' written in ink in the top border. The back is very clean with deep blue printing, however, and the card displays very nicely.
