Chester Gould was an American cartoonist, best known as the creator of the Dick Tracy comic strip, which he wrote and drew from 1931 to 1977, incorporating numerous colorful and monstrous villains. During Gould's run, yearly, at Christmas, he would craft a Christmas card featuring Dick Tracy to be sent to friends and coworkers and other supporters. These cards were bi-fold or just single print cards and took different forms during different periods of the run. They were generally printed on color stock and featured Tracy and other characters from the very popular strip.
This lot of (40) 1930's to 1980's Chester Gould Dick Tracy Christmas Cards are in EXMT to NRMT condition and provide a near-complete run. The cards in the collection include the years, '33, '36, '37, '38, '40, '41, '46(hand colored), '47, '51 thru '63, '65 thru '83. Chester Gould passed away in 1985. It is unlikely that this run could be duplicated again. The consignor has spent years cultivating this set to this point. This is a turnkey opportunity to add this lot to an advanced collection. The lot also includes the Winter 1966/1967 magazine "The World of Comic Art" featuring that year's Gould Christmas Card.
