The R65 Goudey Gum History of Aviation is one of the more colorful, large format issue Goudey sets. The (10) "card" set includes (5) aviators and (5) airships and measures 5-1/2" by 5-1/2" in size. Printed on thin paper, the colorful fronts are matched with detailed, biographical backs and have a pair of holes marked for punching to assemble a 10 card booklet. Since no wrappers have been found for these and owing to the large size, it is believed that these could have been point-of-sale promotions in another Goudey product or been given out for purchasing some type of goods from Goudey. Due to the nature of the paper, the set is frequently found in lower grade--creased or with corner issues.

This complete set of (10) have all been graded by PSA in their larger, oversized holders and fall into the following grades: #1 Howard Hughes PSA2.5 GD+, #2 Rickenbaker PSA3 VG, #3 Wiley Post PSA5 EX, #4 Lindbergh PSA5 EX, #5 Admiral Byrd PSA5 EX, #6 Wiley Post's "Winnie Mae" PSA6 EXMT, #7 Howard Huges Record Smasher PSA5 EX, #9 "Over the North Pole with Byrd" PSA6 EXMT, #10 Wings over the Pacific PSA5 EX. This near set is the #3 PSA Registry set that has been retired.
