The E50 Wild West Gum set was issued by the Dockman & Sons Company and also by the American Caramel Company as the Wild West Caramels. Likely issued around the mid-teens, it contains 24 colorful cards depicting Indians, Scouts and Army officers. Notable characters in this set include Sitting Bull, Buffalo Bill, George Armstrong Custer & Teddy Roosevelt. Cards of these subjects typically are more in demand and will bring a premium to the common cards in the set.
There is a back variation on the spelling of Pawnee Bill or Gordon W. Little in the Dockman set. On some backs it is spelled ‘Little’ and on others it is spelled ‘Lillie’. It appears that the Lillie spelling is more difficult to find than the correct spelling. The American Caramel versions are much more difficult than the Dockman versions and usually carry a 2x-3x premium over the Dockman prices.
This set of (24) cards range from G to VGEX averaging about VG. There are (7) of the "Lillie" variations in the lot.
