The T227 Series of Champions is a series of (24) known subjects that can be found with advertising for either Honest Long Cut or Miner's Extra. The back advertising for each brand states there are (25) designs but only (24) have been seen. Most interestingly, the series offers (4) baseball players including Frank Baker, Chief Bender, Ty Cobb and Rube Marquard--all four of which are in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Other famous characters in the set include Abe Attell--well known for his involvement in the 1919 World Series as the "fixer" who help get the White Sox in trouble in baseball and Jack Johnson--famous African American boxer. In addition to those subjects, also included are horses, a speed boat, race car driver, wrestler, aviators and more. The Bruce Brown, for some inexplicable reason, seems to be the toughest card in the set with many sets missing this subject. The set has grown in popularity over the last few years and are highly collected now.
This trio of T227 Series of Champions cards are cut from some type of advertising material. There is no known poster for the T227 series but these blank-backed cards have a thin border around them and the cards are crudely cut to that border with some of the border showing on most, if not all sides. The stock of the cards is similar to the normal T227 production cards but just a hair thinner. Very interesting lot for the collector of T227's to add a conversation piece to a complete set.
