The E147 Cracker Jack Bears set is one of many sets of cards that the Ruckheim Brothers & Eckstein Company issued. In addition to the prizes that they put in with the tasty treats, they created a number of card sets, booklets and other paper ephemera. The bear postcards display beautiful artwork. There are 16 cards in the set. There are, however, a couple of subjects such as the bears playing baseball and the bears with Teddy Roosevelt which will, at times, command higher prices in an auction. In addition to that, the Halloween bears postcard will sometimes bring higher values with an active Halloween collecting community.
The cards are numbered on the front and the checklist outlined below is in the same order as the cards are numbered. Backs of the cards are divided back postcards. Two back types exist. One with printing that reads ‘sixteen beautiful postcards (no two alike) without this printing…’. The other type is the mail-away complete set versions of the postcards which do not have the wording on the back. The mail-away offer was for 10 Cracker Jack box sides for a complete set or in lieu of the box sides, ten cents in silver or stamps and the side of one box. Cards without the printing should be considered more valuable and are less available due to the redemption. They are priced at double of the postcards with the advertisement on the back.
