The L20 College Leathers set is one of many tobacco leather sets issued in the 1910's to early 1920's. The leathers, like other tobacco inserts, were placed into packages of cigarettes as an enticement for the smoker to buy the packs. The leathers, in many cases, were inserted into small envelopes before being placed in the product. The leathers are popular--especially with alumni of the colleges they picture and for set collectors of tobacco paraphernalia. The L20 set has a known checklist of 156 subjects and with color and format variations likely 1000's of different variants exist. The set offers the variation collector endless opportunities to add to a leather collection.

This pair of L20 leathers are for Harvard and Illinois with original envelopes advertising Turkey Red and Egyptienne Straights. Leathers are in EX to EXMT with envelops in GVG to VG.
