The Manischewitz Hi-Loaf Bread company issued a boxed set of U.S. Presidents likely in 1941 as is noted on the side of the box. The distribution of the set is undetermined but it was likely a point of sale or redemption set for a number of bread labels. The cards measure about 2" by 2-1/2" and are black and white cards printed on porous medium stock.
This near set is missing only George Washington, James Buchanan, Teddy Roosevelt and potentially Franklin D. Roosevelt. Herbert Hoover is the last president in the set--numbered 62 on the back. The cards are numbered on the back in even numbers. There are a couple of additional cards included from the box. One is titled "The United States of America" and is numbered 1-2. The other is "Facts about the presidents" and is numbered 65-66. Card number 64 is missing so it is likely that that card pictures Franklin Delano Roosevelt since the set appears to have been issued in 1941--right in the middle of his four term tenure. If the set is complete at 33 cards, this group is (29/33) for the set. The box is in poor condition with top and bottom flaps missing. The majority of the cards are in VGEX condition with Hoover having pencil writing on the front bottom.
