he 1953 Topps World on Wheels set is one of the 4-5 most popular Topps sets of the early 1950's including Topps Wings and Rails and Sails. Popular with collectors, the set contains (160) cards that are relatively easy to find. In 1954 and in 1955, Topps added (10) cards to the set each year, with a final group of (10) high number cards that are extremely difficult to find. The final (10) cards can be found with either red or blue back printing.
There are two cards in the set that are 'errors' or variations that were corrected or changed. Card #7 Norton Motorcycle can be found with "English" or "German" and Card #92 Mercury Custom 1953 can be found with 118 Horsepower on the back or 125 Horsepower.
This complete set of 180 RED cards and the matching 171-180 cards in BLUE are in very solid VGEX to NRMT condition, averaging about EX. A representative sample of card fronts have been scanned as well as all cards cards numbered 161-180 for both RED and BLUE versions. Variation #7 is in VG condition and #92 variation is in EXMT condtion.
Cards 171-180 Red Backs are all graded by PSA and include the following numbers: #171 (PSA3.5 VG+), #172 (PSA5 EX), #173 (PSA7 NM), #174 (PSA7 NM), #175 (PSA2.5 Good+), #176 PSA8 NM-MT MC), #177 (PSA6 EX-MT), #178 (PSA5 EX), #179 (PSA7 NM) and #180 (PSA4 VG-EX). Although some of these grades are lower, the cards themselves all present very well.
Great, turnkey set. This set is in better condition than the one we sold in the last auction which also did not include the two extra cards. Would be a nice addition to any 1950's card collection. One of the key sets of the 1950's from the key player in cards--Topps.
