Many people believe the 1951 Bowman Jets, Rockets and Spacemen set to be one of the visionary sets of the early 1950's. The artwork is unparalleled and the subject matter was that of dreams for many a small child opening the packs in 1951. The set was ahead of it's time and one of the earliest space sets to be issued on a mainstream card set.
This is an exceptional specimen of this classic series. It is distinguished by a uniform look across virtually all its cards: brilliant colors and bright white borders. Overall, the set averages EX, with the more common 1st series (cards #1-#36) averaging EX+, the more difficult 3rd series (cards #73-#108) averaging EX, and the very tough 2nd series (cards #37-#72) averaging VG-EX+. I believe very few sets in the hobby have better overall eye appeal.
I have identified two cards (#67 and #80) with creases. Approximately 30% of the cards have gum stains to a moderate or lesser degree. Centering overall is above average. You would have to look for years to find a better-looking set. A delight to the eyes and spirit. All the cards are stored in 8-pocket plastic pages, using only the bottom 6 pockets to protect the cards, and housed in a loose-leaf binder.
