The 1950 Topps Bring 'Em Back Alive set of (100) cards pictures the antics of Frank Buck and details efforts to bring wild animals back for displaying. The set pictures wild animals in various settings--mostly in their natural habitats chasing and fighting other wild animals. The cards are vivid depictions of the wild animals.
This 100-card series features the
thrilling exploits of Frank Buck, who traveled the world in the 1920s and 1930s acquiring
specimens of wild animals for zoos and other institutions. The series is further partitioned into
several sub-series, with titles such as “Fighting Animals” and “Civilization Farewell.” The fronts
contain nicely drawn color art, with accompanying narrative on the backs. The set is a mix of 56%
“tanback” and 44% “greyback” cards. This is a very difficult series to collect in high grade; the #1
set on the PSA Set Registry sports only a 7.03 GPA, barely above NM! EX-MT cards are quite
scarce. This set contains quite a few of them, many with a crisp, pack-fresh appearance. Included
are nine PSA-graded cards, with grades ranging from EX to NM, and an average grade of 5.8.
This is certainly one of the finest sets in the hobby, and one to be thoroughly savored and
enjoyed! All cards stored in Cardsaver 1 holders and mounted in plastic pages in a looseleaf
binder, for convenient viewing. Gorgeous! Also included are two copies of Classics Illustrated
comics extracted from books by Buck, and two photos of Buck.
