Established by Enos Gordon Goudey in 1919, the Goudey Gum Company initially gained recognition as a chewing gum manufacturer based in Boston, Massachusetts. However, it carved a lasting niche in the trading card industry during the early to mid-20th century. While the company is renowned for its groundbreaking contributions to sports trading cards, such as the iconic 1933 "Big League Chewing Gum" series, it also diversified its offerings with non-sports card sets like Indian Gum and Some Boy Gum.

The 1933 Goudey baseball card set is celebrated for its vibrant design, featuring captivating illustrations of baseball legends like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Goudey's commitment to quality and innovation during the 1930s solidified its position as a leader in the trading card market. Beyond sports, the company expanded its repertoire with sets like Indian Gum and Some Boy Gum, showcasing its versatility and creativity in producing collectibles that captured the imagination of enthusiasts across various interests.

Despite financial challenges and changes in ownership, Goudey Gum Company's impact on the trading card landscape remains significant. The 1933 Goudey set remains a collector's treasure, while the inclusion of diverse themes like Indian Gum and Some Boy Gum underscores the company's influential role in shaping the visual and thematic aspects of trading cards across different genres.

This lot includes two documents pertaining to the original patent application for Indian Gum from late 1933. One is the actual document with the raised U.S. Patent Office red seal and the other is a stock Goudey invoice that is signed from the sone of George Thompson--the last owner of the Goudey Gum Company noting what the document is and embossed with a Goudey 1918 insignia. The invoice is sort of a "Certificate of Authenticity" that accompanied many of the documents in the Goudey lots in this auction. Amazing piece relating to one of the most important non-sports sets of the 1930's.
